We're happy to take back your Good Eggs boxes and ice packs in good condition as well as glass bottles that you've paid a deposit for. You can return them to your driver during your next delivery. We'd recommend leaving your packaging outside in a visible place during your scheduled delivery.
If you have an excess of packaging to return, our delivery drivers may not be able to take back all of your packaging during your next delivery. They will do their best to take back all that they can. Please hold on to any remaining packaging for return during a future delivery.
If you'd prefer to dispose of your packaging at home, please feel free to follow the steps below.
Cardboard boxes and dividers: You can easily flatten them down and put them out with the rest of your paper goods.
Bubble-wrap cold sleeves: These are BPA-free soft plastic and fully recyclable in San Francisco. If you live outside of San Francisco check out https://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/plastics to learn more about California's plastics recycling. Don’t forget to look inside for your cold items! And be careful when you do — to ensure cold things stay cold, we include dry ice with some items like frozen berries or ice cream.
Bottles and jars: You can recycle bottles and jars with your glass recycling, but if you paid a deposit for them don’t leave money on the table. Just leave them for your driver when you’re expecting a delivery and we’ll credit your account with the amount. We charged bottle deposits for: Strauss Family Creamery, Claravale Farm glass bottles, The Chai Cart bottles, Good Eggs Kitchen Dishcraft containers, and The Juice Shop Bottles. In case you don't see your bottle deposit right after your delivery, don't hesitate to reach out and we'll be happy to help you!
BPA-Free plastic deli containers: Many of our Good Eggs Kitchen products are packed in BPA-free plastic deli containers that can be reused at home or returned to Good Eggs for reuse. We recommend washing these containers before returning during deliveries (please note, we only accept deli container returns for SF Bay Area deliveries).
Produce bags: These are fully compostable in San Francisco and parts of the Bay Area. If you live in the Bay Area, use them to bag up your scraps and throw it all into the compost bin. Maybe someday it’ll be used to grow something absurdly fresh! Please note, these bags are not compostable in Los Angeles.
Ice packs: If you live in San Francisco, you can recycle the BPA-free lining with your other soft plastics — just cut open the bag and empty the nontoxic, food-safe gel into your trash before you do. Ice packs gel is 99% water and 1% Sodium polyacrylate, a non-toxic thickener. We do not recommend disposing of the gel into your drains or sink garbage disposal. If you live outside of San Francisco, check out https://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/plastics to learn more about California's plastics recycling.
Dry ice: Leave the dry ice in the BPA-free red plastic and place in a plastic container in an open-air location or in a well-ventilated area. Choose a spot that is not accessible to kids and animals or make sure that the ice is not accessible. Allow the dry ice to evaporate. The bag can be recycled with your other plastics.
